The Northeast Asian Studies College’s international political studies are characterized by the study of regional issues in the Northeast Asia. The main research directions include the Korean Peninsula issues studies, the Japanese issues studies, the Russian issues studies, China’s Northeast Asian strategies and policies, Northeast Asian power relations, Northeast Asian regional politics and security, etc. At present, there are 7 full-time scholars in the Institute, including 2 doctoral supervisors and 5 master supervisors. All the scholars have overseas study experience. Since its establishment in 2001, the Institute of International Politics has been active in scientific research and postgraduate education. Especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Institute actively promoted research and teaching and achieved remarkable results with focus on the two major tasks of building "first-class disciplines" and "high-school think tanks". In the past five years, the Institute has undertaken and completed more than 20 projects on national, provincial and ministerial-level. It has published more than 10 monographs, more than 60 papers, and more than 20 research reports have been adopted by relevant departments, several of which have been won affirmative instructions and feedbacks from the national leaders. In recent years, the Institute has also been actively promoting domestic and international exchanges and cooperation, and striving to expand its influence at home and abroad. It has become an influential research and teaching team for Northeast Asian issues in the region.
