In order to promote peace and development in Northeast Asia and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, the 2022 forum on the peace and development in Northeast Asia hosted by Jilin University convened in combination online and face-to face options on November 18. The forum aims to build a high-level exchange and cooperation platform for experts and scholars from Northeast Asian countries, expand academic consensus and regional consensus through academic exchanges, and jointly promote peace and development in Northeast Asia. Jiang Zhiying, Secretary of the Party Committee of Jilin University, attended the forum and delivered a speech, and Liu Hongcai, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Association for International Understanding, Deputy Director of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Committee of the CPPCC, and former Deputy Minister of the International Department of Central Committee of CPC, gave a keynote speech.
Xing Guangcheng, Member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Head of the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies, CASS, Wang Ying, Vice Chairman of the Jilin Provincial Federation of Social Sciences and President of the Jilin Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, Wang Shengjin, Eminent Professor in Philosophy and Social Sciences and Director of the Northeast Asian Research Center of Jilin University, Victor L. Larin , Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Head of the Center for Global and Regional Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Battogtokh Javzandolgor, Director of the School of International Relations and Public Administration of The National University of Mongolia (NUM) and former President of NUM, Koh Yuhwan, President of Korea Institute for National Unification(KINU), Naoyuki Yoshino, Director of the Financial Research and Training Center at Japan's Financial Services Agency and former Director of Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), and other participating scholars conducted in-depth discussions on the theme of "Chinese path to modernization is the path of peaceful development."
Jiang Zhiying, on behalf of JLU and President Zhang Xi, welcomed the leaders, guests and experts attending the forum, and expressed gratitude to friends from all walks of life who have long been concerned about and supported the construction and development of Jilin University.
Liu Hongcai delivered a keynote speech on realizing mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation and solidarity, and working together to build a better Northeast Asia.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Cai Lidong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Jilin University. During the forum, well-known experts and scholars from universities and research institution such as Far Eastern Federal University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, National Institute for Security Studies, Mongolia, Kyung Hee University and Kyungnam University in South Korea, Ritsumeikan University, Keio University, Association of Northeast Asia Regional Studies, the Economic Research Institute for Northeast Asia (ERINA), together with noted domestic experts from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences, Heilongjiang Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, Jilin Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Fudan University, Nankai University, Shandong University and other units, as well as experts and scholars in related fields of Jilin University, made reports and conducted exchanges and discussions at three seminars, and everyone jointly focused on the major theme of peace and development in Northeast Asia. Facing the issues head-on, they expressed their insights, exchanged academic ideas, deliberated on approaches and measures to solve various problems, and was committed to promoting the formation of regional consensus through academic exchanges.
In the 1990s, Jilin University successively established the Northeast Asian Studies College and the Northeast Asian Research Center, gradually forming a high-level faculty team and producing a series of important innovative research results. Since 1997, Jilin University has successfully held 11 sessions of the forum on peace and development in Northeast Asia, which is an important platform for Jilin University to carry out international academic exchanges and an essential institution for research in related fields in Northeast Asia. In March 2021, Jilin University set up the Northeast Asian Studies College to establish a cultivation system for national and regional related professionals in Northeast Asia with bachelor, master and doctoral degrees. In June 2022, the Institute For Northeast China and Northeast Asian Studies was founded, and the Institute will continue to provide advices for peace and development in Northeast Asia and work towards building a better Northeast Asia.
